Tom Selleck

Best known for his roles as a private investigator in Magnum P.I., and as Monica’s older boyfriend, Richard, on Friends, Tom Selleck was once part of the 160th Infantry Regiment of the California Army National Guard. While serving, his unit was stationed in Los Angeles in order to control the 1965 Watts Riots.

Alan Alda

Before he created his memorable television role on M*A*S*H as Captain Hawkeye Pierce, a medic stationed overseas during the Korean War, Alda spent six months as a gunnery officer in Korea after joining the Army Reserve. He had been active in ROTC at Fordham University, and joined after his graduation.

Ronald Reagan

Joined the Army Reserve in 1937 after completing a series of home-study Army Extension Courses. During the war, he served in the Army Air Force and was assigned to AAF Public Relations and the 18th AAF Base Unit. Reagan left the military in 1953 as a captain, after being passed over for promotion, but later became Commander-in-Chief of all U.S. Armed Forces when he became President of the United States on Jan. 20, 1981.

James “Jimmy” Stewart

Jimmy Stewart is a film actor with a notable military career, serving crucial roles as a pilot during World War II and the Cold War. He was also one of the 12 founders and a charter member of the Air Force Association in October 1945. Stewart served as Air Force Reserve commander of Dobbins Air Force Base, Georgia, in 1953. Stewart rose to the rank of Brigadier General in the United States Air Force Reserve, becoming the highest-ranking actor in military history. He retired from the military in 1968 after 27 years of service.
