‘Courageous’ military kids highlighted for bravery, leadership during a parent’s deployment or combat-injury care

National nonprofit Our Military Kids announced their 6th Annual Courageous Kids Contest winners on Purple Up Day, which honors the resilience and sacrifice of military children during the Month of the Military Child. The Courageous Kids Contest celebrates children of Reserve, National Guard, and combat-injured veterans from any service branch who have shown bravery and leadership during a parent’s deployment or combat-injury care.

Winners will each receive a cash stipend, national recognition, prizes from GOVX, and certificates. Our Military Kids will share their stories through feature articles and on social media throughout April.

This year’s Courageous Kids Contest winners are:

Hidden Helper Hero category

Natalee, 16, from Iowa
Elysia, 16, from Nevada
Jack, 17, from California
Andie, 11, from North Carolina
Atlas, 10, from Indiana

Army veteran category

Vyolet, 16, from Colorado

Air Force veteran category

Xavier, 18, from Virginia

Marine Corps veteran category

Connor, 17, from New Hampshire

Navy veteran category

Francesco, 14, from Louisiana

National Guard/Reserve veteran category

Justin, 18, from Pennsylvania

Army Reserve category

Kinley, 12, and Michael, 14, siblings from Indiana

Gabriella Grace, 18, from Oklahoma

Air Force Reserve category

Jocelyn, 18, from Pennsylvania

Coast Guard Reserve category

Catherine, 6, from Louisiana

Marine Corps Reserve category

Jax, 4, from California

Navy Reserve category

Aubrial, 16, Isaiah, 14, Hansen, 12, Titus, 11, and Theodore, 6, siblings from Michigan

Army National Guard category

Hannah, 14, from Nevada

Paisley-Kate, 13, from Texas

Air National Guard category

BreeAnna, 18, from Idaho

Gianna, 9, and Dylan, 12, siblings from South Carolina

The 6th Annual Courageous Kids Contest was made possible thanks to Champion Sponsor Koons Tysons Toyota; Presenting Sponsors Navy Federal Credit Union and HII; and Star Sponsors Pilot Company, Humana Military, and GOVX.

About Our Military Kids

Our Military Kids is a national nonprofit that offers year-round activity funding for the children (ages 1-18) of deployed National Guard, deployed Reserve, or Veterans and service members from any branch who are receiving care for combat-related injuries or illnesses. Eligible military families are encouraged to apply for activity funding — find out if your child qualifies and apply here.
