Transitioning military sought for Google career workshop

More than 750 from the military community have enrolled in a personalized Google career workshop, with this weekend being the last opportunity to secure a spot.

The VetNet Virtual Resume & Career Workshop started 10 years ago, but June’s offering is set to be the largest in company history, according to Michael St. Germain, Programs Marketing Manager — Veterans and Military Families for Grow with Google.

Google VetNet, the company’s internal employee resource group for veterans, military spouses, and allies, organizes the virtual meetings. Google volunteers work directly with veterans, military spouses, and transitioning service members interested in reviewing a resume, conducting an informational chat, and/or discussing career transition.

“It’s for anyone interested in any career path. The focus is, everyone who will be on the other side representing Google will be veterans or spouses or allies, which means they all have some level of experience working with military folks. They’ve all successfully in the past helped, either transition themselves or helped other people’s transition. So it’s really just about translating your experiences that you might already have on your OER or NCOER or any of your performance evaluations in the military to a civilian resume,” St. Germain said.

After registration closes Sunday applicants will be paired with a Googler. One-on-one sessions will begin June 15 after aligning schedules of the participants and volunteers.

To apply for the June 15th program, go to 2020 VetNet Virtual Resume & Career Workshop.

Grow with Google also offers a suite of additional veteran resources for veterans:

  • Veteran entrepreneurs: Add the “veteran-led” designation to a business profile on Google that populates on Google Search and Maps;
  • Transitioning service members: By searching “jobs for veterans” and entering a MOS code, viewers can find relevant civilian job opportunities;
  • Get skills for an IT career: Hosted on Coursera, complete a Google IT Professional Certificate at no cost.
