Protesters took to the streets in Charlotte for a third night on Thursday, but with the distinct presence of the National Guard.
Forty-four people were arrested after Wednesday’s protests, and one protester who was shot, 26-year-old Justin Carr, died at the hospital Thursday. City officials said police did not shoot Carr and no arrests have been made in his death. The National Guard was called in early Thursday morning to help keep the streets of Charlotte safe during this period of unrest. Their focus was on protecting buildings, both government and businesses. This allowed local police to dedicate their resources to keeping the peace among the people, especially protesters.
