Soldiers’ Angels seeks veteran, military families for holiday program

Amid a global pandemic and the economic instability that has come with the health crisis, Soldiers’ Angels reports that more military families than normal are in a situation of need this holiday season and the non-profit organization is encouraging families to sign-up to be a recipient of the program. In fact, an anonymous donor is providing the opportunity to “adopt” more veteran and military families than originally planned with hopes to exceed last year’s impact.

2019 Adopt-A-Family impact:

• 908 military and veteran families supported
• 2,511 children supported
• 2,162 reported packages sent to families
• 1,975 reported hours spent on the program

“The support for our military community is even more important this year than in previous years,” said Amy Palmer, President and CEO of Soldiers’ Angels. “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, tens of thousands of our National Guard members and Reservists have been activated or deployed around the country in support of COVID operations. For our troops deployed overseas, due to COVID travel bans, restrictions, and quarantines, deployments are longer, families are apart longer, and spouses are facing higher than normal unemployment with the shutdown or cutbacks having to be made by so many businesses. The list is long for the additional hardships our service members and their families are facing this year.”

The goal in helping these military and veteran families is to show America’s gratitude for the sacrifices they have made in service to our country. Without the assistance of programs like the Adopt-A-Family program, many military and veteran families would go without any type of holiday celebration due to the financial strain it can cause on an already tight budget.
