Reservists and National Guard members are eligible for free lawn and snow-removal services through Project Evergreen.
The national nonprofit’s GreenCare and SnowCare for Troops program is in its 15th year and partners with landscape, lawn care and snow removal companies – or private citizens – in all 50 states who volunteer their services.
Services are mostly for active-deployment, whether stateside or overseas. Their rank must be E-6 or lower.
“This is for the military member’s home residence and this person leaving causes a hardship for their family to complete all tasks of caring for family and home,” said Ki Matsko, GreenCare and SnowCare for Troops program director. “We will consider some training exercises or TDY on a case-by-case basis if they are required, extensive, and cause a hardship for the family. The military member needs to contact us for approval before registering.”
Though services will vary based on the individual volunteer, mowing, trimming shrubs, weed and pest control, and leaf clean-up can be provided.
Volunteers will continue to work for service members’ families at no cost for the duration of the deployment.
Interested service members must provide their deployment orders and show their name, rank and dates of deployment. Registration to be considered for services should be completed no more than four weeks before deployment.
