Always ready, always there for the National Guard, that’s AFBA.

Every hour of every day, service members put their lives on the line to protect our country and our citizens stateside and across the globe. But many of these brave men and women don’t have enough life insurance when they make the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation. When the unthinkable happens, having life insurance is essential. It can help replace lost wages, cover burial and final expenses, and transfer wealth or leave an inheritance.

The need for life insurance is real and pressing. One out of five individuals with coverage say they don’t have enough, and 35% of households would feel the financial impact within one month if the primary wage earner died. Did you know that most consumers overestimate the cost of life insurance by three times the actual price? And four out of ten say they haven’t purchased life insurance because they don’t know how much they need. Industry experts recommend enough to replace seven years of income.Purchasing life insurance provides your loved one’s peace of mind and financial protection.

With State Sponsored Life Insurance (SSLI), National Guard families can, with minimum costs, get the additional coverage they need including a $1,000 non-contributory benefit paid for by the state Guard association for all active members, and basic SSLI with death benefits starting at $10,000 or enhanced SSLI starting at $50,000 for the member and spouse.

SSLI features 24/7 coverage with no occupational, flight, specialty, hazardous duty, terrorism, or combat exclusions, emergency death benefit2 to help loved ones immediately after a loss – generally within 24 hours – and payments through military allotment. Coverage continues at group rates after retirement or separation, and there is even a Family Survivor College Scholarship3 for family members.

National Guard members can sleep well at night knowing their families are covered anytime, anyplace. In the field or at home, the last thing on Guard members’ minds should be life insurance. That’s where the Armed Forces Benefits Association (AFBA) comes in. With survivor benefits from AFBA, Guard families are protected.

Since 1947, AFBA has stood by our country’s armed forces providing access to term life insurance during war and peace. Today, AFBA serves 650,000 members in the armed forces, government employees and contractors, law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel. AFBA has paid $2 billion of survivor benefits to the families of members. Life insurance underwritten by AFBA’s wholly-owned affiliate, 5 Star Life Insurance Company fund these survivor benefits.

To protect your family today, contact your state National Guard Association or visit www.afba.com/ssli for more information.
